5 Movies That Will Encourage You in Your Faith

This summer, check out these 5 must-see films that will encourage you in your faith!

GNDAvatarGod’s Not Dead – College freshman Josh Wheaton refuses to sign a paper stating that God is dead, as instructed by his professor. As a result, he is given the task of proving that God indeed is not dead. God’s Not Dead is all about taking a bold stand for your faith, even in the face of adversity! (Extra note – God’s Not Dead 2 will be released next spring!)

GU_Avatar1Grace Unplugged – Grace Trey struggles with wanting to live life her way, pursuing her own dreams. When an opportunity presents itself, she leaves her old life behind her, and faces the excitement, pressures, and temptations of budding stardom. In spite of it all, she is left feeling empty, and discovers that only her Heavenly Father’s love can truly fulfill her.

DYB-DoYouBelieveInTheCrossDo You Believe? – Do You Believe? (which it looks like will be coming out on dvd in August!) follows the lives of a dozen different people from very diverse backgrounds as they grapple with the most important question any of us will ever face – “Do you believe in the cross of Christ, and if so, what are you going to do about it?”

FTG_desktop5_800Facing the Giants –When the head coach for Shiloah Christian Academy is faced with near defeat in various areas of his life, a new coaching philosophy and outlook on things completely changes both his life, and the lives of football team he coaches. This movie was made a few years back, but it still has a great message for us today! It demonstrates how God blesses those who seek Him, and how He proves Himself faithful, even in the worst of circumstances!

fireproof_desktop3_800Fireproof – Catherine and Caleb’s marriage is going up in flames, when Caleb’s dad convinces him to take the 40-day Love Dare challenge. Can their marriage be saved? The movie shows how marriage isn’t just fun and games, but is about making a real commitment to someone to love them, and keeping that commitment, even when it isn’t easy. It will change the way you look not only at marriage someday down the road, but also how you view dating, which is all about finding the person that God has for you to marry.

New Website For Teens and Young Adults – Generation Arise!

generation arise header

I recently launched a new website for teens and young adults!

The name of the website is Generation Arise (http://generationarise.com/). Generation Arise shares movies and music that will encourage young people in their faith, tackles real life questions, and most of all, shares the truth of God’s Word in a way that this generation can grasp!

The purpose of Generation Arise

The purpose of Generation Arise is to encourage the young people of this generation to arise and shine for God, to grow closer to Him, and to become who He created them to be. I wanted to start a site that was specifically geared towards young people because they are searching for truth, which can only be found in the Word of God, and the good news of the gospel contained within it. They long for something real, but in this modern culture, often end up looking in all the wrong places. My desire for Generation Arise is that it will point them towards the One who is The Truth (John 14:6).

The meaning behind Generation Arise

The website is called Generation Arise because it’s all about encouraging this generation to arise, and to shine forth the light of God. Isaiah 60:1 bids us to arise and shine, and this is what Generation Arise will spur on young people to do. Check out Generation Arise by clicking on the link below, and share it with the teens and young adults that you know!

5 Things To Do During Your Summer Staycation

5 Things To Do During Your Summer Staycation

Have you been really busy this summer? Longing for a break? Wish you could just go on a vacation?

Why not have a “staycation?” Clear your schedule for the weekend, and just relax and have fun with your family! Here are 5 ideas of things to do for some family fun during your summer staycation –

1. Have a movie marathon. Rent a few of your favorite movies, and sit down and watch them together.

2. Outdoor game night. Spend the evening playing outdoor games, such as croquet and Botchee.

3. Family Outing. Go somewhere in the area that you all enjoy. Visit the zoo, play a game of mini-golf, go bowling, etc . . .

4. Go on a picnic. Pack yourselves a lunch, and enjoy it outdoors!

5. Board game tournament. Choose a couple of your favorite board games to play together.

Which of these activities will you do as a family during your summer staycation?

You Don’t Have To – Part 2

You Don't Have To - Part 2You Don’t Have To . . .

  • believe everything you hear without stopping to consider whether or not it’s the truth. Sometimes, this world tries to tell us things that aren’t really true. Just because you hear it doesn’t make it the truth. Always ask the Spirit of Truth to guide you into all truth (John 16:13).
  • feel condemned every time you mess up. Romans 8:1 says that there is NO condemnation for those who are in Christ. Today, you don’t have to experience a constant sense of condemnation, because at the cross, Christ was condemned in your place!
  • worry about the opinions of others. As long as you are doing the right thing – doing what God wants you to do – don’t worry about what others think of you. After all, if God is for you, who can be against you (Romans 8:31)?
  • watch or listen to things that don’t reflect your values as a believer. Some songs, while having a catchy beat, contain lyrics that aren’t very edifying. Some movies and tv shows, while possessing an engaging storyline, include some questionable content, as well. Just because something’s popular doesn’t mean that you have to watch or listen to it. If it doesn’t line up with the kind of thing
Philippians 4:8 says that you should be thinking about, you may want to rethink your choice of media.
  • always be worrying about situations in your life. Instead, cast all of your cares upon the Lord, believing that He will sustain you (Psalm 55:22). Trust that He will work all things together for your good (Romans 8:28)!

Which of these do you need to break away from? How can you begin to do so today?

Summer Movie List

Summer Movie ListLooking for some good movies to watch this summer? Check out these suggestions!

(The movies on this list were carefully selected content-wise, and are all rated PG or G with the exception of Flywheel, which I couldn’t find a rating for. However, it’s always a good idea to use discretion in movie watching, and in selecting a film suitable for your audience.)

Family Movies

  • The Parent Trap (Disney version, starring Lindsey Lohan) – The Parent Trap is all about twin sisters who hatch a plot to get their parents, who are divorced, back together.
  • Cloud Nine – After finding out that she isn’t as good at snowboarding as she originally thought, Kayla Morgan (played by Disney’s Dove Cameron) will stop at nothing to prove that she has what it takes to win at the Fire and Ice competition!
  • Game Plan – A big-name football player discovers that he has an eight-year-old daughter when she shows up at his doorstep. Now, he must make the transition from #1 player to #1 dad!
  • Quints – An only child faces major adjustments when her mother gives birth to quintuplets.
  • Hotel For Dogs – Two children need somewhere to hide their dog to keep him a secret from their foster parents. They discover an old hotel where some strays are living, and get the idea to turn it into a place to bring puppies who would otherwise be sent to the pound.

Teens and Adults

  • Grace Unplugged – Starring AJ Mickalka as Gracie Trey, this movie tells the story of a young adult’s struggle with wanting to live life her own way, chasing her own dreams.
  • The Ultimate Gift – Jason Steven’s grandfather dies, and leaves him the ultimate gift – an inheritance that entails far more than he bargained for.
  • Flywheel – This dishonest car dealer hits a low point in both his career and his family life, causing him to turn to God. He determines to do things God’s way, embarking on a journey full of ups and downs.
  • Facing the Giants – When the head coach for Shiloah Christian Academny is faced with near defeat in various areas of his life, a new coaching philosophy and outlook on things completely changes his life!
  • Fireproof – Catherine and Caleb’s marriage is falling apart at the seams, when Caleb’s dad convinces him to try the 40-day Love Dare challenge. Can their marriage be saved? Or is it doomed to end in divorce?

What is your favorite move? Which of these movies have you seen? Which of them do you want to see? Which of them do you like the most?

Movies To Watch This Father’s Day

Movies To Watch This Father's DayThis coming Sunday (June 15) is Father’s Day – the day we celebrate our dads, and the role they play in our lives. The movies on this list are all about fathers! Choose one of them to watch this weekend!

(In this day and age, it’s difficult to find movies that contain nothing objectionable whatsoever. The movies on this list were carefully selected content-wise, and are all rated PG, with the exception of Courageous, which is rated PG-13. Always remember to use discretion in movie watching, and in selecting a movie suitable for your audience.)

  • Daddy Day Care – is about 2 men who open a childcare service after losing their jobs, and are faced with the question of what’s really most important to them – corporate life, or their family life.
  • Daddy Day Camp – The men who opened Daddy Day Care now decide to open a day camp for kids! All throughout the film, the main character is caught between the kind of father his dad was to him, and the kind of father he wants to be to his son.
  • Father of the Bride – is an older movie that’s still fun to watch! It tells the story of a father’s struggle in coming to grips with his little girl growing up and getting married, as well as dealing with all the hoopla the wedding preparations entail.
  • Cheaper by the Dozen 2 – His kids are growing up, and this dad of 12 is having a hard time lengthening the leash, and learning to letting go.
  • Down and Derby – The upcoming Pinewood derby brings out the competitive side of the fathers in this movie full-force. Will they be able to let go of the need to win, and simply enjoy some father-son bonding time, or will they take matters into their own hands?
  • Courageous – This Christian film shares the story of the triumphs and failures of, as well as the lessons learned by, 5 men who, when faced with reality of how lack of a solid father figure has messed up the lives of many, form a resolution to become the kind of men and fathers God created them to be. (Note – While possessing a great story line with an awesome message, some of the content of this movie is more appropriate for older audiences, as indicated by the PG-13 rating.)

Which of these movies have you seen? Which of them would you like to see? Which one do you like the best?
