Have you ever wondered what it really means to be a Christian? Have you ever had someone ask you that question, and found it difficult to explain to them clearly what being a Christian is all about?
Simply put, a Christian is someone who has received God’s gift of salvation. A Christian understands that . . .
They have done things that are wrong, and the wrong things they have done separated from God. (Ephesians 2:12)
No matter how hard they try, they can’t save themselves. We can never be good enough to earn a relationship with God, because He is perfect, and no matter how hard we try, we just can’t be perfect. (Romans 3:10)
Jesus took their place. The payment for doing things that are wrong is death. Jesus took our place, and died for us. Because He did that, we can have eternal life – a relationship with God that begins now, and will last forever! (Romans 6:23,
John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
God offers us salvation as a free gift. When someone gives you a gift, you reach out and take it! God offers the gift of salvation to each of us. We simply need to receive it! (Ephesians 2:8-9)
If you’ve already accepted Jesus as your Savior, this is what that decision meant. If you haven’t received God’s gift of salvation yet, accept it today!
Aren’t sure where to begin? Simply tell God that you know you’re an sinner, and can’t save yourself. Tell Him you want Jesus to be your Savior, and that you receive His gift of forgiveness and salvation. It’s as simple as that!
I got to interview Sam Hancock, lead singer of Luminate, for my website for teens and young adults, generationarise.com. He shared a little bit about the band, what he enjoys about being a part of it, and why they do what they do, as well as what it was like to have their song “Welcome To Daylight” featured in the movie Grace Unplugged!
About The Band

What’s the story behind “Welcome To Daylight? What’s it like to have one of your songs in a movie? Hear all about it in Lighting Up The Darkness With Luminate – “Welcome To Daylight” In Grace Unplugged!
I recently watched Grace Unplugged, a Christian movie about a teenage girl named Grace – daughter of a former-rock-star-turned-Christian – and her struggle with wanting to live life her own way, chasing her own dreams. Leaving home to pursue a career in the music biz, she would soon discover that the glamour life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and the importance of a relationship with God over the world’s empty promises.
Throughout the film, Grace sought fulfillment in a variety of places – fame, a guy whom she thought cared about her, success in her music career – only to come up empty and heart-broken each time. This is the story of many of our lives. We try to satisfy our deepest longings with that which can never bring true satisfaction, and no matter what we do, something always seems to be missing. Like Grace, it is only when we turn to God that we will truly find what we are looking for. It is in Christ that we are complete (Colossians 2:10). Only the love of our Heavenly Father can fill the void within us, giving our lives true meaning and purpose.
Grace Unplugged stars AJ Michalka as Grace Trey, whom the movie’s about, Jamie Grace as Rachel, Grace’s friend, and features a special appearance by Chris Tomlin. Rated PG, it is a great movie for teens and adults, and a good reminder that true fulfillment and purpose are found in the arms of our Heavenly Father!

Why Called and Created? What does it even mean? This name comes from Isaiah 43:7, where God speaks of those who are called by His name and created for His glory. What do these phrases signify?
To better understand, consider how we inherit our father’s last name upon birth. People call us by this name. It is a sign that we belong to our particular family. It’s the same when we received salvation. Having been born again, God is now our Heavenly Father. We are called by His name, declaring us part of His family.
Before becoming part of the body of Christ, we were separated from God – without hope and without Him in the world. (Ephesians 2:12) Still, because of His great love for us, while we were as yet dead in our transgressions, God made us alive with Christ. (Ephesians 2:15) Our eyes were opened to the truth of the gospel, and we made the decision to receive His offered salvation. As recipients of His unequaled goodness, we show off to the world His incomparable grace. We were created for His glory – to display His mercy and kindness in our own lives, that others might recognize it and respond by turning towards and glorifying Him. Having experienced His surpassing love, we possess the privilege of sharing it with others.
Called and Created is more than just a name for a website. It tells us who we are and explains our purpose. We are God’s children – called by His name. We display His love and grace – created for His glory. This is the significance of Called and Created.
