Does Your Faith Affect Your Use of Social Media?

social media

As Christians, our faith in Christ should affect every part of our lives. Did you ever consider how it should affect your social media interaction? Next time you’re using a social media app or site, such Facebook or Twitter, as yourself these questions –

How do the books, movies, bands, and celebrities I’ve liked or followed reflect upon me as a believer? What you spend time watching and listening to, and who you support, has a lot to say about what you value. What do the pages you’ve liked or followed say about you, and who you are as a Christian?

What am I really posting? What are the songs you’re sharing really saying? Is the language you are using honoring to God? Are you posting jokes with questionable humor? Make sure your statuses line up with the kind of thing Philippians 4:8 says we should be thinking about!

Do I show God’s love when I interact with others on social media sites? Is what you’re posting going to hurt someone else, or make them feel left out? Ask God to help you to show His love to others, even on social media!

How will what I’m posting influence others who may look up to me? Chances are you have someone in your life who looks up to you. What kind of an example are you setting for them online?

Here are a few ways you can social media in an encouraging manner –

  • Post a favorite Bible verse you come across.
  • Loved a worship song at church this weekend? Share it!
  • Share something you are thankful for.

His Song of Joy Over Us

His Song of Joy Over UsThis week’s memory verse for Called and Created’s Bible Reading and Memorization Plan is Zephaniah 3:17. It assures us that God is with us, mighty to save. It declares that He takes delight in us, and rejoices over us with singing.

We need not fear, for the Mighty One is always with us. We are never truly alone, for He will never leave nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6), and He is mighty to save. He cares for us more deeply and truly than any other, and no one can snatch us from His hand
(John 10:29).  He is more than able to handle any situation we may come up against in life – big or small – and He possesses an affection for us from which springs a care for all that concerns us. The One with whom the impossible is possible loves us, and is on our side. Considering this, what do we have to fear? Why do we need to be afraid?

The Most High rejoices over us with singing. He has bestowed lavish love upon us, in calling us His children (1 John 3:1). We are His beloved sons and daughters, and He is our Daddy in heaven. He sent His Son, who paid a high price to redeem us, even to the point of giving His life for us at the cross. The devil tries to whisper to us lies concerning our worth, such as that we aren’t good enough, and never will measure up, no matter how hard we try. Our Heavenly Father, however, tells us that we are His chosen people, whom He dearly loves (Colossians 3:12). The question we need to ask ourselves is whom we are going to listen to – the devil and his lies, or God’s song of rejoicing over us.

Our Heavenly Father is always with us, as a Mighty Warrior, to save us. He rejoices over each of us with singing. Let’s allow Him to use His saving power in our lives, and listen to His song of joy over us rather than the lies of the enemy!

It is freely given to each one of us. It prompted Him to send His Son to give His life for us, that we might enter into relationship with Him. Such a love can never be equaled!
