Courageous, Snake King, and a Father’s Role

Courageous, Snake King, and a Father's RoleThe movie Courageous, produced by Sherwood Pictures (the creators of Flywheel, Facing the Giants, and Fireproof), is all about 5 dads who form a resolution to be the kind of men and fathers God created them to be.

When Mitchell the police officer’s daughter is killed in a tragic car accident, he is faced with the question of what kind of father he was to her, and what kind of a dad he is being to his remaining son. After studying Scripture, he drafts a resolution that proclaims who he wants to be as a man of God and the leader of his family, and asks 3 of his fellow officers, as well as another friend, to hold him accountable. They decide to take the resolution as well, and do so during a ceremony in which their families participate. The rest of the movie details the triumphs and failures of these five men when the rubber meets the road and their resolve is put to the test, as well as the lessons they learn along the way.

My favorite scene is when two of the police officers and their friend Javier are on their way out to lunch, and they get a call about a gang member who was arrested, that they need to pick up. Not knowing what to do about the fact that Javier is already occupying the back seat of the squad car they are driving, they form a scheme to fool the gang member by having Javier pretend to be a dangerous member of the “Snake King” gang.

Rated PG-13, some of the movie’s content is more appropriate for older audiences. It’s a great film with an awesome message on the role of fathers, and the affect they have on the lives of their children. It also demonstrates that despite a tough background or difficult circumstances, you CAN get back up and rise again. It sounds a call for men to arise and fill the role God designed for them to fulfill.

  1. What a great web log. I spend hours on the net reading blogs, about tons of vaoruis subjects. I have to first of all give praise to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what I can only describe as an fabulous article. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only very few posses and honestly you got it. The combining of demonstrative and upper-class content is by all odds super rare with the astronomic amount of blogs on the cyberspace.I have bookmarked, Dugg, and I joined the RSS subscription. Thanks! ….
