Names of Jesus – The Truth

Names Of Jesus - The TruthThis week is the fourth and last week of the Names of Jesus series. If you’ve missed any posts from the series, check them out from earlier this month, and delve deeper into the names of our wonderful Savior!

When talking to His disciples, following the last supper, Jesus called Himself the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). He is The Way – the only way to the Father. He is also The Truth. John 1:14 states that Jesus was full of grace and truth. John 1:17 says that through Moses came the law, but through Christ came grace and truth. In these two verses from the first chapter of the book of John, grace and truth are mentioned together. Our Savior is The Truth, and He came to reveal to us the truth of our Heavenly Father’s love and grace for each one of us.

Jesus is the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). When He was on this earth, He did nothing by Himself, but only what He saw His Father doing (John 5:29). When He ate with tax collectors and sinners (Matthew 9:10), when He reached out and touched a leper, who was considered unclean, to heal him (Matthew 8:3), and when He extended forgiveness to a woman who had lived a sinful lifestyle (Luke 7:37-38 & 48), He was demonstrating the true heart of God to those around Him.

For years, God’s people had lived under the old covenant of the law, which was based on mankind’s attempts to earn relationship with God, and all of His blessings. The law was given, however, not as a way for us to be made right with God, but as our tutor, to lead us to Christ (Galatians 3:24) – to bring us to the end of ourselves, and show us our need for a Savior. When Jesus came, He clearly demonstrated to us God’s amazing grace, which is shown to us under the new covenant that He came to establish.

Our Savior came, full of grace and truth (John 1:14). The One who is The Truth came to reveal to us the truth of God’s love and grace towards us. Grace and truth truly did come through Christ (John 1:17)!
