At Christmastime, we exchange presents with those we love. God loved us so much that He gave us the greatest gift of all – His Son, come to save us! At the cross, the greatest exchange in all of history took place – Jesus took our place of sin, so that we could receive His place of right standing before God. All of God’s wrath against sin fell on Him. He bore the punishment that we deserved. Now, because of what He has done for us, God will never again be angry with or rebuke us (Isaiah 54:9). Our sins have been removed from us as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12)!
Those of us who are in Christ are new creations. The old has past, and the new has come
(2 Corinthians 5:17)! God views us based no longer on ourselves and our actions, but rather on Christ’s finished work at the cross. Our new identity is found in Christ, and as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17)! Just as Christ is accepted before God, and dearly loved by Him, so are you! Instead of relying on your own actions to determine your standing before God, trust that you have become the righteousness of God in Christ
(2 Corinthians 5:21)!
This Christmas season, let’s give thanks to God for sending His Son to save us, and for Jesus’ sacrifice on our behalf. Let’s allow the story of the birth of our Savior to be a reminder to us of God’s wonderful plan of redemption. Let’s begin to recongnise that Christ’s work for us at the cross has made us completely righteous in God’s eyes.
Be confident in your Heavenly Father’s amazing love for and complete acceptance of you!
