A Heart of Gratitude – Day Twelve

A Heart of Gratitude - Day Twelve“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.” Colossians 3:15, NASB

Colossians 3:15 bids us to be thankful. There are many things in each of our lives for which we can give thanks. God provides us with many blessings on a daily basis. At times, however, we tend to over look some of them.

Our Heavenly Father blesses us in many more ways than we often realize. Some of the ways in which He provides for us may seem, to our minds, such everyday occurrences that we end up taking them for granted. We’ll never know the full extent of the greater dangers, as well as the more trifling vexations, that our Heavenly Father’s loving care shields us from. These, added to the more obvious ways in which His provision can be seen, give us ample reason to give thanks to our Father in heaven.

The biggest and greatest gift that God has given each one of us is the gift of His Son, who gave His life for us. He died for us while we were, as yet, sinners (Romans 5:8). He made a way for us to be reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:19). We have received the gift of right standing with the King of Kings, not because of anything that we have done, but because of what His Son did for us at the cross. This in and of itself is more than enough reason to praise our wonderful God!

Do you ever have a hard time being thankful? Perhaps you’re going through troubling circumstances, and no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to find anything for which to be grateful. If you are going through tough times, you can give thanks to God that He has provided the miracle – big or small – that you are in need of. Nothing is impossible with Him (Luke 1:37). He has good plans for you – plans not for your harm, but to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). He is completely capable of doing far more than we could ever ask or think (Ephesians 3:29). Look to Him and receive your answer today!

We each have many reasons to be thankful, and express our gratitude to our Heavenly Father. He cares for us in countless ways, some of which we don’t even recongnize.  He gave His one and only Son for us, as the greatest possible proof of His love. Even in the midst of difficult circumstances, we can give thanks to Him, confident that He is both willing and able to make a way for us when may seem that there is none. With so many causes for gratitude on our part, let’s cultivate a spirit of thankfulness, and be on the look out for things for which to thank our wonderful God!
